So, earlier this month, I got some really exciting news. I haven’t been able to share it, because it was under wraps until a certain measure of fact checking could be done. But now, the go-ahead has been given, and so I am pleased to announce that I got selected to be one of the 2011 Pittsburgh 40 Under 40!
For those of you who are not from the Pittsburgh area, or are not aware of 40 Under 40, I’ll swiftly get you up to speed.
For the past 11 years, PITTSBURGH Magazine and the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP) have sponsored the 40 Under 40 program, which recognizes 40 people under the age of 40 who are committed to shaping the Pittsburgh region and making it a better place.
There! Now, I don’t know how much *shaping* I do, but I do believe that I can make a positive difference, be it through my reading events, visits to classrooms, and the like. I hope that the recognition that comes with this honor will help facilitate my doing so.
But I can’t think too much about the future tonight. This didn’t feel totally “real” until it was announced publicly, so even though I’ve known about it for a few weeks now, my head is totally swimming. So for this evening, I’ll just revel in the moment.
Tomorrow, though — tomorrow, it’s time to get moving. So, if you’re a teacher in the Pittsburgh region, and there’s something I can do to help you hold a neat reading event in your classroom — a storytime, an author visit with Q&A, even a little creative workshop — I’d love to discuss it with you. Please, either comment here or click the e-mail icon on the top banner; let’s connect!
PS: And for those of you who might want me to interact with your students, but are located outside the Pittsburgh region, I do Skype visits as well!
