Michael's Musings

Friday Round-up

I had been holding off on my latest update for a news article to be published; sadly, it got pushed back and I won’t be able to share it today.  Instead, allow me to share something else: a lovely new review of Latasha and the Little Red Tornado, courtesy of The Prairie Library!  It’s a good book blog, absolutely worth following.

I also have some other good news, but I have to hold that tidbit close to the chest until later this month. When it’s public record, you’ll surely find out!

*Ahem.*

It has been a busy week! As those of you who know me are aware, I’ve currently got a number of literary irons in the fire. I’ve got the impending release of Latasha, as well as my second novel, Postcards From Pismo, which is on the cusp of a final draft. (I’ll be writing more about that come winter-time.) Then, there’s the new book that’s pecking away at the back of my brain, begging to be written.

And, of course, I’ve got the Tales of Midlandia. Until recently, this picture book series was only available through my employer, which is an education company that packages my work in an elementary school curriculum that it sells. However, early next year, a few of the titles will soon be released to the retail market — with corresponding iPad apps that are in development (!!) — so I’ve been meeting with the illustration team that did all the artwork to see the series’ “face-lift-in-progress”.

Here is the new cover art for one of the titles — one of my favorites, The Pirate Koostoe (click on it for a larger, brighter view):

I’ve always loved this title, so I’m psyched to see it go out into the world. (Plus, I’ve seen some of the iPad prototype for this book; what enhancements!

The release will coincide pretty closely with ALA’s Midwinter Meeting in Dallas, so hopefully we’ll have some sweet giveaways for you friendly librarian types.

Anyway, these are some of the things I’ve been working on this week. There will be much, much more to come!

(By the way, to my Latasha ARC-holders: if you like the book, be a friend and rate/review it on Goodreads. It would be a great boost.)
