It’s a mere six months away — my school tour to celebrate the release of Latasha and the Kidd on Keys, my new novel. I’ve mentioned the tour once before, in the entry My Year of School Visits. So far, I’ve got a few schools lined up, with over 1,000 students in attendance between them. Here’s what the tentative map looks like:
The trip will begin on Monday, February 25th, 2013. As you can see, I’ll start in Wisconsin, move into Illinois, motor on to Indiana, shoot back up into Michigan, skip over to Ohio, and then return home to Pittsburgh.
But wait — in my last post on the subject, didn’t I describe this as a 5-day, 10-school tour? This map clearly shows a route through six states.
That would be because my ambitions have grown. Rather than do a 5-day, 10-school tour, the Latasha and the Kidd on Keys launch has grown into:
- 6 States
- 10 Days
- 20 Schools!
That’s right. I visited 20 schools last school year. This year, I want to visit 20 in two weeks. Here’s how it’ll work. On my way through WI-IL-IN-MI-OH, I’ll be visiting a pair of schools within 45 minutes of each other each day. And then, when I get back to Pittsburgh, I’m doing two schools a day in the PGH area for a whole second week.
Will this kill me? Perhaps. But it’s going to be a ridiculous amount of fun!
There are still some variables in the air. I need some schools in Pittsburgh to join me on the venture. And I’ll need schools in the Indianapolis (or really, Indiana-at-large) area to wave hello. But the anchors are in place, and I’ve also locked down a new visit with the awesome readers at Minges Brook, my elementary home-away-from-home. Thanks, Colby!
Want in? Hit me up. I’m especially interested in schools within 45-min from:
Onalaska, WI[edit: all booked! Thanks, Crystal!]
- Highland Park, IL
- Indianapolis, IN (or South Bend or Fort Wayne)
Battle Creek, MI[edit: Michigan is all wrapped up! Double thanks to Colby!]
- Columbus, OH
- Pittsburgh, PA!!!
The great thing is, if we can’t arrange a visit in-person for the launch, well, there’s the remainder of March for Skype visits. Let’s make this happen, before my vocal cords go on strike!
