It’s true for lots of writers — we need a soundtrack as we work. I know that’s the case for me. Sometimes, it’s a mood-setter; sometimes, I just need something that will block out the noise and distractions around me. Other times, music is an integral part of the story I’m telling — like it has been over the last year, while I’ve been writing Latasha and the Kidd on Keys.
In the Latasha sequel, we meet a character who’d been absent from the first novel: Latasha’s father, a musician. At one point in the book, the father gives Latasha a mix CD in order to bond with her. How does it turn out? Well, you’ll have to wait until next year to read it all. But for now, I thought I’d share the Daddy-Daughter mix Latasha’s father made, which also served as a soundtrack while I wrote. In the book, and in real life, the title of the mix was Tough Ladies for my Tough Lady.
